Hamas Considers Egypt Summit
A Bid to Isolate It
Gaza
A senior Hamas leader Sunday termed the four-way summit to be held
at Sharm al-Sheikh Monday as a bid to kill the Islamic movement
which took control of the Gaza Strip.
The summit will also achieve President (Mahmoud) Abbas and Israel's
dream of destroying Hamas, said Khalil Abu Laila, Hamas' foreign
relations chief.
Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak and Jordanian King Abdullah will sit together Monday in the
Egyptian sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh to discuss the situation
after Hamas took control of Gaza.
But Abu Laila insisted that Olmert would be the only winner of the
meeting, as he will "try to open new aspects to normalize ties with
more Arab states".
After Hamas seized all security compounds in Gaza, Abbas has sacked
the Hamas-led coalition government and formed an emergency
administration of Fatah and independent ministers who are based in
West Bank.
Abbas also rejected Hamas' calls for dialogue unless their gunmen
withdraw from the Palestinian Authority buildings in Gaza.
According to Abu Laila, Abbas rejection of talks was "submission to
the Zionist and American conditions and a despair attempt to tighten
the international siege on Hamas".
