ULFA Blames RSS for Blast at Assam Market
Guwahati
The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Thursday blamed
the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a radical Hindu organisation,
of masterminding the blast that killed one person and wounded 40
people at a village market Wednesday.
The explosion took place at a predominantly Muslim area in village
Gulutuk in Kamrup district, 50 km from here.
"The blast was carried out at the behest of the RSS and was executed
by the organisation's youth wing with Abhijit Sarma as the kingpin,"
ULFA spokesman Raju Baruah said in a statement received by IANS.
Sarma is the head of the Assam Public Works (APW), a non-government
group known for its anti-ULFA stand. The APW earlier this year held
an opinion poll and said more than 95 percent of the respondents
rejected ULFA's demand for independence.
"Sarma is a member of RSS's youth wing," the statement said.
Police earlier blamed the ULFA for the bombing. There was no
immediate comment from either Sarma or the RSS.
"The RSS has already prepared a blueprint for creating communal and
ethnic trouble in Assam and instructed its cadres to execute the
plans. The bombing was part of their gameplan," the rebel statement
said.
The ULFA, fighting for an independent homeland since 1979, has
cautioned locals to be vigilant against the 'nefarious designs' of
the RSS and other such groups.
"The need of the hour is to be alert and vigilant against such
plans," Baruah said.
