Illegal Resorts in Munnar To Be Razed: Achuthanandan
Thiruvananthapuram
Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Tuesday reiterated that all
luxury resorts in Munnar that have encroached upon government land
would be razed in the next two months.
Speaking to reporters here after a meeting with the three-member
team and a ministerial sub-committee formed to oversee the
demolitions, he said: "We have told the team that they can go ahead
and raze down all buildings, including luxury resorts, that have
come up on government land in Munnar."
He said that in the last month, 91 such properties had been
demolished and the government had got back 11,350 acres of land.
"There was some confusion regarding validity of the title deeds
given by one Ravindran during the E.K. Nayanar regime (1996-2001).
Of the nearly 500 such title deeds given, around 200 have been found
out to be bogus ones. This will be examined in detail by the
government or the courts. The title deeds given during the time of
the previous Congress-led government have been found to be bogus
ones," he said.
Munnar, a small tourist destination in Idukki district, has more
than 3,500 small and big resorts and several wayside small hotels
and restaurants that have come up in the last few years.
