Sibal to Highlight
India's Academic Success at Africa Summit
New Delhi
Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal will represent India
at the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Africa Summit in South Africa
beginning Wednesday and outline the success of India's academic
system in producing skilled workforce.
According to industry lobby Confederation of Indian Industries (CII),
which is the India partner at the summit, Sibal will underline the
role of India in fuelling Africa's economic growth and what Africans
should do to optimise the benefits and manage the challenges of
these new cultural and economic ties.
Sibal will also highlight the success of India's academic systems in
producing the skilled and talented workforce that has formed the
backbone of the country's knowledge economy, a CII statement said.
The 17th WEF Africa Summit at Cape Town will be a three-day affair
and Sibal will share his visions about Asia-Africa partnership on
June 14 and June 15.
In his interaction with African heads of state and governments, some
of whom are likely to come for this meet, Sibal will focus on
different facets of India-Africa relations and ways to deepen trade
and investment between the two sides.
Top political leaders, officials, business, international
organisations, civil society members and experts will gather for the
17th annual WEF meeting that will focus on leveraging Africa's
increasingly strategic role in the global arena.
The CII focus in Africa is to supplement the programme by developing
strategies to enhance economic, industrial and trade relations by
identifying areas of mutual cooperation and issues of concern and
evolving guidelines for different forms of cooperation, the
statement added.
Malvinder Singh, managing director of pharma major Ranbaxy
Laboratories is leading the CII delegation and would spearhead the
discussions at the summit as a co-chairperson.
