Mayawati Denies Prime Ministerial Ambition

New Delhi
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Friday denied media reports that she aspired for the prime ministerial post and said she had "never given any interview" where she had made such a statement.

"I have never given any interview** in which I said that I aspired for prime ministership. I request the media to exercise caution and cross check with me and my Bahujan Samaj party (BSP)," she said in a statement.

"The media has a responsibility to fulfill and keeping its self-esteem, it should always ensure that whatever they publish does not affect their credibility," she said.

Mayawati said "the media should exercise caution and restraint."
