World Economy Set for Robust Growth: IMF

The world economy is set to grow briskly in 2007-08, heading for a "soft landing" despite this year's stock- market jitters and slower growth in the United States and Europe, the International Monetary Fund said Wednesday. Global growth will settle at 4.9 percent both this year and next from a hot 5.4 percent in 2006, but fast growth in China and India as well as solid US consumer demand should help keep momentum on track, the IMF said in its twice-yearly look at the world economy. Montreal Protocol:
A Quiet Revolution but Challenges Ahead

As the world celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol, a key meeting of 24 countries of South and Southeast Asia and the Pacific region began here with satisfaction in protecting and restoring the ozone layer and introspections about the climatic challenges lying ahead. The participants in the meeting were informed that 85 percent of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) had been phased out while the remaining 15 percent would be nullified in time for the 2010 deadline. The 'Power' Politics in Uttar Pradesh Polls 
Money and muscle are two great power factors in Uttar Pradesh politics, or so it seems, if you go by a recent survey in the state.  According to a study carried out a voluntary organisation, Election Watch, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) topped the list of nominees with criminal antecedents, while the ruling Samajwadi Party had fielded the maximum number of millionaires in the ongoing state assembly elections that commenced April 7. The seven-phased poll will end May 8. The average assets of Samajwadi Party and BSP candidates were estimated at Rs.16.4 million and Rs.13.6 million respectively. Read On
