Kashmiri Hindus
Reject Recommendations of Round Table

Jammu
Displaced Kashmiri Hindus have rejected the recommendations of the third round table conference on Jammu and Kashmir, posing a serious question over effectiveness of the dialogue process for consolidation of peace in the Valley.

For the first time in many years, the two factions of Panun Kashmir (our own Kashmir), a leading organization of Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus), held a joint press conference in Jammu Saturday and denounced what they called pro-separatist tilt of the round table conference.

Ajay Charngoo and Agnishekhar, leaders of the two factions of Panun Kashmir, told newsmen that they rejected the equation of their community with the Kashmiri youth, who have gone across the line of control (LoC) for arms training. "What is the equation between the two," Ajay Charngoo asked.

"We are the victims of violence, they are part of the persecutors. How victims and militants can be treated alike," Agnishekhar asked.

Kashmiri Pandits are unhappy with the way the issue of their migration has been neglected. They were furious that they have been clubbed together with terrorists.

The working group on the confidence building measures had recommended that the Kashmiri youth, who had gone across the LoC, be rehabilitated and that the package should be the same as what the government proposed for the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

Since 1989, more than 350,000 Kashmiri Pandits had fled the Valley under the threat of persecution by Islamic militants.

There are about 3,000 Kashmiri youth who had gone across the border for training in arms, but could not return. They had sent distress calls. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had hinted at finding ways for their return at the second round table conference held in Srinagar in May last year.

Meanwhile, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) too has rejected the recommendations of the round table conference. Party vice president Hariom has written to the prime minister telling him that the conference was a monologue of separatist forces and the BJP had nothing to do with it.
