Six Taliban militants killed

Kabul,
The US-led coalition and Afghan troops killed six Taliban insurgents in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, a coalition statement said Sunday.

The Taliban attacked the troops with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms in Sangin district Saturday morning, the statement said.

The troops returned the fire. After pinning down the Taliban fighters, the troops called in close air support, which destroyed the enemy site, it added.

Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 800 people have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
