Flood toll rises to 35 in Thailand

More bodies were found in southern Thailand Sunday, taking the death toll to 35 in the sudden flooding that washed away tourists at two waterfalls in Trang province, media reports said.

The flash floods occurred Saturday almost simultaneously at both the Sairung and Prai Sawan waterfalls, about four kilometers from each other, in Yantakao district, some 680 km south of Bangkok.

Villagers were quoted as saying that there was heavy rainfall Saturday morning, and the flash floods took the tourists by surprise.

About 500 tourists were visiting the waterfalls when the tragedy struck. A total of 35 bodies have been found till Sunday morning and some people are still missing.
