New US Bill seeks to Ban Military Aid to Pakistan
New US legislation, already endorsed by the House of
Representatives, calls for stopping military assistance to
Pakistan if Islamabad fails to halt the resurgence of
Taliban inside its territory. It asks that for fiscal years
2008 and 2009, US military assistance to Pakistan "may not
be provided" unless the president "determines and certifies"

Karnataka Considering Loan Waiver
for Farmers
Karnataka Governor T.N. Chaturvedi Thursday said the state
government was thinking of waiving loans obtained by farmers
from cooperative institutions. The government is set to
mobilize resources for the loan waiver scheme from the
revenue likely to accrue from the retrieval of encroached
lands in and around the Karnataka capital and their disposal

Multi-million Rupee Online Ticket
Fraud Busted
Police Wednesday said it
had busted a Rs.135-million (about $3 million) racket that
booked more than 15,000 Kingfisher Airlines tickets on the
Internet using fraudulently obtained credit card numbers.
One Ahmed Sheikh has been arrested. He was part of the gang
that used to book airline tickets online using credit card
numbers obtained from hotels, shopping malls, restaurants
and other retail outlets, investigators here said.

India and Russia Thursday
invigorated their strategic and economic ties by signing
nine documents in relating to building more nuclear
reactors, civilian uses of space technology, trade and
commercial ties and cultural exchanges. Among them was a

Senate Panel Rejects Bush's

The senate committee that oversees US foreign relations Wednesday
voted in favor of a resolution rejecting US President George W.
Bush's troop surge in Iraq, saying it is not in the interest of the
US.
The non-binding resolution was passed by a 12-9 margin and will go
to the full senate next week. One Republican, senator Chuck Hagel,
joined the majority Democrats in supporting the resolution.
