Russia Set to Produce Stealth Fighter
India and Russia are set to jointly
produce a fifth generation stealth fighter and a multi-role
transport aircraft (MTA), officials announced Wednesday
ahead of President Vladimir Putin's visit to this country.
And, in an indication of deepening military ties between the
two countries, Moscow has made a strong pitch for a 126
aircraft order from the Indian Air Force.

India and Russia Wednesday agreed to jointly develop a
multi-role transport aircraft (MTA) amid indications that
Moscow's proposal to co-develop a fifth generation combat
jet was making progress. The two countries have also agreed
to the licensed production in India of the RD-33 engines
that power the frontline MiG-29 fighters of the Indian Air
Force. They also discussed Russia's offer of the advanced
MiG-35 jet to meet the IAF's requirement of multi-role

Democrats rebuffed US President George W. Bush's call to
support his plan to increase the American presence in Iraq
and accused Bush of "recklessly" leading the US into the
war. "The president took us into this war recklessly," said
senator Jim Webb, who is all set to deliver the Democratic
response to Bush's state of the union address. "We are now,
as a nation, held hostage to the predictable and predicted
