Murthy Calls for Compassionate Capitalism
Infosys chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy Friday called on India
Inc to embrace compassionate capitalism for inclusive growth and
tackling the social-economic ills plaguing society. Addressing the
valedictory session of the CII summit here, Murthy said though
corporate India was high on confidence, the need of the hour was to
translate good intentions into action to take the deprived sections
along the path of progress & share benefits

Inflation Hits Two-Year High at 6.12%
The government Friday promised remedial action as inflation
zoomed to a two-year high of 6.12 percent, raising worries over
interest rates and real economic growth. The year-on-year inflation,
measured by the official wholesale price index, stood at 6.12
percent for the week ended Jan 6, compared with 5.58 percent for the
week before, data released showed Friday.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Friday outlined a vibrant picture of

hope that the newly elected US Congress will take a "broad view" of

Killer Storm Sweeps Northwest Europe
Strong windstorms accompanied by heavy downpours raged across
northwest Europe on Thursday, causing fatalities and disrupting
transport in some large cities. The storm, Kyrill has claimed about
27 lives - four in Britain, two in Netherlands, three in the Czech
Republic, six in Poland and several more in Germany and other
places. Many of the deaths were caused by storm-related and traffic

drawn criticism from many who fear it will eat into traditional

direct contacts established between Beijing and exiled Tibetan
leaders, said Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here
