India, China Conclude Boundary Talks; Tawang
a Sticking Point
India and China Thursday concluded their ninth round of talks on
resolving the boundary dispute in a "open, friendly and constructive
atmosphere" and agreed to continue discussions in Beijing later this
year. The talks, however, did not make much headway over China's
claim to the monastery town of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, a

Solution: Dalai Lama
The Tibetans want a mutually
acceptable solution although there are no results as yet despite
direct contacts established between Beijing and exiled Tibetan
leaders, said Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here
Thursday. "We want a mutually agreeable solution of the Tibet issue,
but the present situation is not favorable for both China and
Tibet," the Dalai Lama told journalists in Agartala.

Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty
Thursday moved to defuse a ballooning row over alleged racist slurs
against her in a British TV reality show by saying nothing of the
sort happened, even as the future of the show hung in the balance
after its main sponsor withdrew. "I don't feel that there was any
racial discrimination," a highly emotional Shetty said on Channel 4,
which had broadcast an episode of the Celebrity Big Brother show in
which some of the participants seemed to be racially taunting the
leggy actor.
