Indian shares rose 0.56 percent Monday to lift a key index to a lifetime high, buoyed by buying interest in some heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries and Infosys Technologies. The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) gained 143.88 points or over one percent in the first five minutes of trading to hit an all-time intra-trade high of 14,200.41 points. As a "Cultural Phenomenon"

America's most prominent daily The New York Times has hailed the premier here of the new Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai starrer "Guru" as an event heralding "not only the arrival of a movie, but also a growing cultural phenomenon." Giving Bollywood probably its most prominent exposure for mainstream audiences, the Sunday edition of the paper covered at length the Friday night premier of the film at New York's Times Square with Bachchan and Rai in attendance.
