India's quest for global
civilian nuclear cooperation got a boost Monday with 16 leaders of
the East Asia Summit agreeing on the need to promote such
cooperation in the region. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who
delivered an extempore address at the second East Asia summit, said
that although the India-US civil nuclear deal did not figure in the
discussions, there was general support in this regional forum for
promoting nuclear energy.

Key Indian Equities Index Hits Lifetime
High
Indian shares rose 0.56 percent Monday to lift a key index to a
lifetime high, buoyed by buying interest in some heavyweight stocks
such as Reliance Industries and Infosys Technologies. The 30-share
sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) gained
143.88 points or over one percent in the first five minutes of
trading to hit an all-time intra-trade high of 14,200.41 points.

drove out a Tata Motors team when it visited Gopalnagar village in
Singur, the focal point of protests against land acquisition for a

Gogoi Monday said the government's six-week ceasefire to the
outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was a blunder with
the rebels taking advantage of the truce to regroup and spread out

may be a little wrong when we offered a ceasefire to the ULFA,"
