Pakistani Kashmir Opposition Party
Against Hurriyat Plan

Islamabad, Jan 22
Domestic politics of Pakistan-held Jammu and Kashmir has come in the way of conciliatory plans proposed by All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) at President Pervez Musharraf's instance.

Rejecting Musharraf's plan, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders said Islamabad and New Delhi had no authority to decide how the Kashmir issue would be resolved.

They said that APHC chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is advocating President Musharraf's and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's proposals of division of Kashmir.

The visiting APHC delegation failed to convince the Pakistan People's Party of Azad Kashmir (PPP-AJK) to accept Musharraf's proposal for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. PPP-AJK leaders took a hard line, insisting that the Kashmir dispute could only be resolved in line with the United Nations resolutions.

The APHC also failed to convince the PPP-AJK on convening Working Relations Group meetings in Muzzaffarbad and Srinagar. The Daily Times said the APHC and PPP-AJK teams would meet again on Tuesday.

The Hurriyat leaders said they were disappointed by the opposition parties' rigid stance.

"All parties, ruling or opposition, religious or nationalist, should unite on one agenda for the solution of the Kashmir issue," Mirwaiz said.
