Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, whose government was
Sunday reduced to minority after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
withdrew support, appeared to be in a dilemma over seeking a floor
test to prove his majority.
He told reporters at one point Sunday that he would request the
governor to give him an opportunity to prove his majority on the
floor of the assembly.
However, he later told reporters that he wanted a session of the
house to explain in detail to the public the reasons for not
transferring power to the BJP as he agreed to do 20 months back.
"I am not going to indulge in any horse-trading to prove my
majority. I want the session to be held so that every member will
have an opportunity to discuss the reasons for what has happened.
"This will expose BJP since many in that party worked against
Yediyurappa (who was deputy chief minister) becoming chief
minister," Kumaraswamy said.
He apparently wants to have the proceedings telecast live on local
channels, make his point and announce his resignation in the hope of
denting the BJP's 'betrayal' campaign against him.
Kumaraswamy met legislators of his Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) in the
morning to hear their views on the emerging situation and the next
steps to be taken by the party.
Several legislators said after the meeting that the majority were
against seeking any support and preferred polls.
